Romulans (Updated + Dominion Minion)

For everything Star Trek related, that isn't covered by the other forums.

Romulans (Updated + Dominion Minion)

Post by marcnoonan »

Hi All,

One for the Rommie fans, I recently converted some ships from Star Trek Armada 2 Ops add-on for a client and unless you've played the game it's unlikely you'll have seen them. The models are unscaled and were more blocky than lego so refining was the main job and the client didn't want any of the details from the textures adding.

I should be doing another 4 Rommies and 1 Dominion ship from the game shortly.

Enjoy

Thanks for the scaling Koba.

I've previously done all the others for a member on here but deleted all the uploads on Shapeways because they were done when I first started and were very basic meshes. I've got over 30 pages of stuff on Shapeways and try only to keep the pretty stuff. ;)

Me Again,

This round I was allowed to detail the next batch and overlayed the textures onto the ships and then turned those details into physical objects on the Romulan Veles, Venator and Dominion B-8. I was allowed up to 5 hours on each, but kinda doubled that, but I think it was worth the end results. Hopefully I'll get some photo's back of this lot and the other 4 ships.

Interesting. What are the roles for these ships?

That first one, that is a lot of engine for not a lot of ship. Fast scout?

Same as all, dust collectors lol. I think they are for gaming as they're un-scaled but in-game, I've no idea mate, I just make-em.

But Memory Beta says...

The Venator-class starship is a vessel employed by the Romulan Star Empire that was operational in the 24th century.
The Venator was a new addition to the fleet and were intended to complement the feared Warbirds of the Romulan fleet. Though it was slightly smaller then the D'deridex-class, it was quite a powerful foe to face with its long range disruptor weaponry. (TNG video game: Armada II).

The Veles-class starship was a vessel employed by the Romulan Star Empire that was operational in the 24th century.
The Veles could be described as the protector of the Romulan fleet mainly due to a unique cloak projector that emanated from the vessel and would encompass a fleet. This essentially enhanced the cloaking ability of a fleet, allowing it to remain in such a state without a drain on power reserves. It was armed with four banks of plasma torpedoes as well as an array of disruptors which made it quite a formidable foe in battle. (TNG video game: Armada II)

A long ranged and medium sized cruiser, the B-8 War Frigate is equipped with a great amount of pulse armament and a tetryon torpedo. This allows it to deal a large amount of damage to your opponent’s small sized vessels. The vessel also comes standard with the Transporter Assault ability, which causes it to deplete a target’s shields, and thereupon begin to transport Jem’Hadar over to the vessel in question without lowering its own shields. If using this warship to capture enemy vessels, be sure to exclusively target weakly crewed vessels (such as most destroyers) while pounding the more powerful vessels with the normal weaponry. The Transporter Assault (or normal transport) set on high weapons autonomy can also be very useful when enemy vessels attempt to retreat and cloak, thereby dropping their shields. The B-8 War Frigate has powerful shields for being available in the early game and is a great fleet filler which can keep your own ships crewed. Note that it is rather difficult to retreat the B-8 as the majority of its firepower is forward firing.

I like to have a role in mind for any ship I design. What does it do? I want it to fit into the world I'm creating.

Edited above to include their roles/classes. Surprised the Venator is D'Deridex sized.
