Blue stuff - easy casting!

Post by NCC1966 »

I didn't know where best post it, so here it goes. I bumped to this casually when looking for other things and found it simply fantastic. It's called 'blue stuff' and bring casting to a whole new level since it is cheap, clean, reusable and quite simple. I ever had the wish to cast parts but all the hassle (fumes, smell, cost, etc) and number of steps that it can go wrong discouraged me. But after to watch this video I am really excited to give it a try!

:)
Thanks,

Yan.

Very interesting (GW will not be happy when they see that video !)
I should give a try in order to duplicate some bridge modules I need for kitbashing i/o buying the fullplastic kit for only cutting it down into pieces.
I'll try also the Tyranid because once I ordered pairs of arms from a bitz shop and they sent 4 left arms and 2 right arms i/o 3 pairs, they didn't send the correct pieces even after I complained so I blacklisted them from my shopping list !

I've used something similar to that but it wasn't blue I found it left behind a slightly greasy residue so I stopped using it, this might be something different that doesn't do that

for some things I use

If it's small and I need it in a hurry

everything else gets done in silicone results are decent

One of the things that catch my attention was that it doesn't need to be greased. Also the fact that it gets soft to be reused by just drowning it in hot water is absolutely fantastic. I love technology!

:)

Finally, and even the guy in the video not mentioning it, we shouldn't forget that it's a green product (although it's blue!) because you can reuse it indefinitely and therefore there is not impact to the environment with the use of aggressive components. The nasty chemical stuff is one of the reasons why I never wanted to play casting parts. Now I am sad that I don't have anything to copy!

On a side note, I believe that it only works for small solid parts. I guess that big ones (like saucers) or hollow parts cannot be done using this process...
Thanks,

Yan.

I just have found that while 'Blue Stuff' is the fantasy name for the product made by 'Green Stuff' company, if you search for OYUMARU (the generic product name) in eBay you will find a TON of options of quantities, bar sizes, colors -- even plain clear -- and of course prices!

Looking for 'oyumaru' in Youtube will return also a lot of cool how-to videos!

:)

Thank you NCC1966, I will be getting some of this in the future and trying my hand at it.
