1/350 Refit Enterprise Deflector Dish Removal

Postby Ncc1701Fabe » Tue Jun 28, 2016 4:29 am

Hello All,
Need some help. I purchased a fully assembled partially lit 1/350 Refit Enterprise that was screaming for help. And noticed that the deflector dish was placed and glued backwards. So the "bowl" side is facing out rather than in the hull.
Is there anyway of removing this piece without damaging the surrounding area. Is there some sort of solution or solvent that can be placed as best a possible around the dish to possible loosen it up?
Or if anyone has any other solutions, that would be great!
Thanks

I heard somewhere that you can freeze Superglue to get parts apart but not sure how you would go with it. It looks like you will need to get the whole deflector dish shroud part off to try and get the dish out of it.

For superglue- they make an "un-cure":

But it too comes with problems. It will uncure the cya, but it will also affect the surrounding plastic (soften it). Frankly I'd be stumped attempting to 'fix' this.

I'd say, try to brush some Simple Green along the edges of the dish like a wash. You may need to apply multiple times. The only issue is the simple green possibly leaking inside the model and damaging the electronics. I don't think it will, depending how you do it. It will also strip the paint, but there will be no damage to the plastic.

LoL, this backward deflector made the main hull looks like an old jet engine.

Thanks,

screw it and own it! New style deflector installed for a short trial period.

It was damaged during one of the Enterprise's many many many many encounters with space anomalies, then it was replaced with the original.

Patrickivan has the best solution. It's a good looking build, and it would be a shame to damage it.

But if it were mine, and I really really wanted to fix it, I'd buy a new deflector part and replace it. Break, cut, and/or drill it out leaving the round inner bezel. Glue some styrene bits to form a bit of shelf around the edges, then drop the new deflector in. Putty and paint. You could do the whole thing without touching the outer hull paint.

You could drill a hole in the center, stick a post in it, and mount an old style dish.. Call it an in between upgrade.
i don't know. I'm making it up as I go.
