While I don't really consider myself an artist, that doesn't stop me from trying to be artistic from time to time. So I figure I'd share a handful of my attempts.
I'd been meaning to put up a site for my Trek based works, but I don't think I have enough of the site finished yet to do it. Still, I don't mind sharing the demo/test version which you guys can find here...
While I wanted to keep the design simple, one thing I wanted was to make the title card at the top of each page change randomly. I have each of the main pages set to rotate between three title card images... which in turn meant I needed a bunch of title cards. I put together a gallery of them here...
Another quick-n-dirty side project was making calendar desktop images from some of my composite art. I was actually making these for myself (as my wife wants me to keep better track of what day it is), but I figured I'd share them if any one else likes them.

They may not be Ships of the Line quality, but hopefully you guys will find some of them interesting.

Very nice work with these! The rotating title cards are a novel idea.

I find them to be most interesting. And no few Ships of the Line calendar entries- tend to be a bit overdone IMHO.

You are an artist. Art is not flat work only. Frankly models are sculpture, especially the way you do it.Shaw wrote:While I don't really consider myself an artist, that doesn't stop me from trying to be artistic from time to time. So I figure I'd share a handful of my attempts.

Re: Shaw's artistic endeavors
Thanks a ton guys!
Because my education is in mathematics and physics, and I approach most of this stuff from a research perspective, I tend to question if the stuff I do that isn't research has any artistic value.
My area of mathematics was differential topology, which I've often described as mental sculpting (in the visualization of immersions of manifolds). And to try to help share with others what I'm seeing in my mind I would draw these immersions. Here is one example (of an immersion of the real projective plane into Euclidean three space)...

I've always found this stuff exceptionally beautiful (it was why I switched from physics to mathematics in school), but I'm not sure others would call any of it art.
Anyways, I'm always glad when people get any enjoyment from stuff I've made. Speaking of which, a few more months of images...

What is modeling but applied topology?Shaw wrote:Thanks a ton guys!

Shaw,
I find your digital artwork on par in quality with your 3D physical artwork (models)
a couple of those title cards seem like HD transfers from "Where No Man Has Gone Before" - well done !
as for your ships of the line calendar...as good or better than the official stuff
