Got the decals MEATLOAFr sent me today. What a good guy, he printed Karis Tatenen's quote in 8 different colors and gave me two sets of registry and name decals. I'll use these in conjunction with the kit decals...

Gave them a few coats of Decal Bonder to seal the ink:

Ship's name and registry up close. The tiny USS ABADDON decal will go on the fantail:

Now it's time to Gloss Cote the Abaddon herself.

I'm liking this one more and more.. Makes me think of the B-29 Superfortress. All "guns" and "go".
i don't know. I'm making it up as I go.

Thanks Hoss! One of the ideas behind the 20th century dreadnought design was that it would carry a LOT of high caliber guns and the more the better. So that's what I set out to do with this ship.

Here's an update. I thought I'd be decaling by now but got sidetracked a little bit so have to be satisfied with what I did accomplish this Father's Day weekend. Speaking of which, Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there at AST!

Here's one of my sidetracks. Fiber strands were bloomed at their ends using a BIC lighter and glued into the barrels of the forward and aft mega-phasers. This avoids them looking like regular 20th century ships gun barrels that fire standard metal-cased shells:

Aaaaaans anopthe one...another weapon. Using two sizes of aluminum tubing I made a powerful anti-proton bean emitter for the front of the saucer. This is a variation of the beam weapon used by the Doomsday Machine:

The emitter installed on the bow of the saucer:

Still a WIP but I got to thinking about the impulse engine vents and decided a redo was required as I had covered the screen material in the impulse engine vents with so much paint it totally obscured the metal "grills". So first I plucked out the existing clear styrene panels, then I cleaned out all the dried white glue and scraped as much of the underlying yellow paint as I could off the grills. After that I painted the recessed vents with Testors fluorescent orange paint before placing new transparent yellow styrene panels into the vent openings. Still need to retouch the medium gray framing around the vents but I am much more pleased with the look of the impulse engines now:

Here's the Tamiya pastel chalk (one of four different sets I own) that I used to apply the final hull color. As well as adding weathering you can also rub the metallic colors into the hull to give the ship a more remastered look:

Here's the ship in her "remastered" livery. I used titanium and silver pastels to give the grey hull a metallic finish:

Once she gets her final matte finish the metallic shine will be somewhat more subdued but I think it's a nice look for her nonetheless. It hints at the carbon-neutronium alloy used for the ship's armor plating.

That's all for now folks! Be great all over again!

I could see a number of Klingon D-7's painted on the side of one of the hulls to indicate the 'success' of that ship. 8-)
There are Times, Sir, when men of good Conscience cannot blindly follow orders. You acknowledge their sentience, but ignore their personal liberties and freedoms. Order a man to hand over his child to the state? Not while I"m captain.

There would be a lot of them. This vessel is the second of it's class by the way, the first being the U.S.S. GOLIATH which was lost with all hands when ambushed by a Klingon armada within the first six months of it's launch. It did manage to take out over a dozen D-7's as well as four Klingon battleships during the engagement but in the end it succumbed to the overwhelming numbers of enemy ships arrayed against it. So this ship is the second of the Goliath class of dreadnoughts.

I got the term super dreadnought from a WIKI page and thought it sounded cool. After a second glance following Vance's post I see the term used with a hyphen (super-dreadnought) usually placed inside quotation marks as in "super-dreadnaught". This leads me to believe that the "super" modifier is somewhat overkill as, by definition, a dreadnought is already the most powerful ship in the fleet. This then begs the question, if this ship, which far outclasses it's contemporary, the Federation class "dreadnought", in firepower, speed, armament, etc then where does that leave the Federation class? Would it still be considered a dreadnought even though it is no longer the most powerful ship in the fleet? By the way, I've decided to do away with the term "super" and just go with "dreadnought" for the ship type.

There can be multiple classes of dreadnought if it were considered a type of ship as opposed to just being the most powerful ship in the fleet. No reason the Federation and the Abaddon can't both be dreadnoughts.

I expect dreadnoughts to be rare, which is why we never see them on the show. That or maybe the term was dropped as basic Federation ships got bigger and more powerful over the years. I'd expect a more advanced ship like the Enterprise-E being able to put up a good fight against your Abaddon. I still like the idea of dreadnoughts still being a thing in TNG, so my head canon gets all kerfuffled.

I didn't mention it in my other comment, but I really like the metallic base you have on this ship. It really makes it different than the Constitution class or other ships using similar parts (Saladin. Ptolemy, Federation, etc).

A battle against the E did you say? She might be able to outrun the Abaddon but in a pitched battle she might have trouble penetrating the Abbie's carbon-neutronium alloy armor plating, much less her triple-redundant layered shields. And if the Abbie lands a blow to a vital area of the E with her bow mounted anti-proton beam it could be all over pretty quick; not to mention her mega-phasers fore and aft. Oh and did I mention the Abbie can cloak? No, the E would do well to escape and call for reinforcements.
