So full disclosure, i am a 1:1400 snob. Have been for quite some time. Anyone who ever saw my work over at starshipmodeler knows this.
About 15 years ago I had to put a large chunk of my collection away. They had hung on my ceiling for quite some time and it was time to move. So they sat in a box for a decade.
Only recently have I managed to get a garage with shop added on to my house. So I decided to open up the old treasure chest.
What I found disturbed me...
A great deal of the kits in white had all Yellowed. And not only them, but many kits in gray as well.
Apparently this was from Testor's clear coats from back then. The main affected kits were motion picture era. About half of the Mirandas ~3, almost all Excelsiors ~7 and my original and refit constitution had been affected. My Nova Hobbies Constellation wasn't, but looking at the kit I was just not impressed with this past work. I've done so much better since...
New Orleans and New Orleans Refit from StarCraft.
Luna class StarCraft, and home made Terral class from half StarCraft.
...So I'll be taking another shot at that Constellation. I hope to get the new full Excelsior, Constitution Refit, and Miranda decal sets from StarCrafts to help replace the mess. They weren't available back in the day. I'm also wondering if I should get a pait of constitution refit decals as partial slip-ons for the constellation from, star crafts. Just not sure. I did manage to ge a custom decal set from BobMat343designs on ebay. I recommend the guy he was way faster than JT.
Oh an total side rant.( don't worry you'll get used to it.) Tried out this paint as I'm trying to find Testor's replacements.
Can't recommend it. I was using it to replace Testor's Gunship Gray on phaser strips and when placing decals on it, small globs of paint slump off the second any water hits it. Its been a nightmare on my Luna to work around. Will need to use another company for Gunship.
And then I took a look at the first Galaxy/Nebulas that I did Enterprise, Trident, Atlantis. these are almost 20 years old now.
I can do so much better now. I decided these will need a redo as well. I'm just waiting on JTGraphics decals. They will match my Nebula USS Endeavor and Galaxy USS Challenger which I did more recently in the New Orleans Paint scheme above.
So this is going to be a lot of work, but I finally have the time and space to invest in it. But these weren't my only projects I also have an Olympic waiting on decals as well.
And a granddaddy project that i've kinda stalled on... Just not sure what direction to take it and waiting for some more inspiration. Thinking it will be turned into a full corner shelf in the garage. Wanting to do an assimilation bay ripping apart a fed ship. Not sure what ship or how to do all the effects yet.

My modeler “renaissance” began in 2019 when my storage unit flooded and my box of models got soaked through. I had to unbox everything and wash it thoroughly to prevent mold. Most of them were unworked resin kits from Nova Hobbies and Ravenstar. Sometimes fate plays a hand!

Oh... Thank god they were unworked at least! Having seen your work, I'm willing to bet you have some of them on this forum further down the line.Halgebra wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 11:00 pm My modeler “renaissance” began in 2019 when my storage unit flooded and my box of models got soaked through.
