FINISHED: Romulan Vengeance class

Post by Halgebra »

Here’s another Romulan ship from Northtrek Creations!

I’ve been puttering around with this for a few weeks already - mostly some minor sanding and filling.

I already attached the impulse engines and the underslung shuttlebays.

I’ve joined the pieces of the Vengeance together! Here’s a shot of the peg holes I drilled to boost structural integrity:

With marks to help line them up…

Here is the ship glued together (with CA) with some Bondo to fill the seams (still to be sanded):

As a little bonus, I got this Romulan Empire base on Shapeways. I cut a circle from styrene and glued it to the back for added stability:

Filling / sanding phase has progressed to the final stages!

I decided to make some extra “feather panels” out of sheet styrene to cover some larger putty seams + for extra strength. Here’s the pair on the dorsal surface:

The ventral sections were harder to draw freehand, so I made a rubbing with tracing paper and pencil, like so:

I cut out the pink sections and used it as a quick stencil on the styrene sheet.

And glued on - hopefully they’ll blend in better after a coat or two of primer & fine tuning.

These got their first coat of primer and revealed a few missed holes to be patched and rough spots to be smoothed out:

I’ve made significant painting progress! First, I’ve finished hand painting the Romulan Empire logo display stand:

IMG_5828.jpeg
The base is just Tamiya flat gray primer. I have some Romulan writing decals that I plan to apply to the top band of the triangular background. Then topcoats, and done!

Here is the Vengeance class: I combined coats of Tamiya pearl green (1st) and Tamiya light green (2nd) for the base coat:

By taping off portions of the head and applying an extra coat of light green, I managed to create some subtle shades. I did some hand painted details, too… the eye is Testors metallic lime green & the nacelle vent is a mix of the same + Testors metallic gold.
IMG_5936.jpeg
Today I taped off the entire ship except for some areas that will be Tamiya dark green.

Here’s the little sidecar ship - I used strips of painter’s tape to mask off a pattern. The colors are Tamiya NATO green and
Grey green. I then did a blending coat.

Here is a pic I found online that is my color scheme inspiration:

I mixed a reddish orange and hand painted the feathered pattern like so:

In addition to the bright green portions, I want to add some extra light highlights to the hull pattern. But I’m happy with it so far!
