well, I will give it a lick of paint tomorrow after a good scrubbing to see how it looks. The top of the battlehead side looks fantastic with detail. I didn't take a photo of the other side.

Thanks for the pics and that came out sweet and looks perfect to me, but it's all about perspective. ;)

You're looking at the side (top) that is meant to go inside the saucer so I wouldn't bother doing any work to the top. The underside is the part that is on show and matches to the battle bridge...or at least mine. I just ripped the 2D shape from mine and then made it 1.5mm thick so the top is a perfect mirror of the underside. Unfortunately I killed my laptop with coffee so can't show you any pics but if you look at this 3D rendition you'll see exactly how it's meant to fit.

I made it as a slightly simplified imprint to this and when the neck is cut away it should slot into the hole but you may need to support it from behind inside the saucer.

Hope that clarifies and fingers crossed it fits.

Cheers

Are you saying the part can be used as either the top of the battlehead or the undersaucer mating part?

I will examine closer tomorrow at work (that is where it is) and clean it up before spraying with white primer.

Thanks Marc

Here is a pic of the underside with a coat of white primer (still wet). It looks so much different with a coat of paint and the detail really stands out.

Yes, El Gato.

I've been so busy the past few months that I totally missed this thread (as well as others). This battle head is something I think I need to order. I've been wanting to eventually do a saucer-sep model, so this is probably the perfect part for it when combined with a rare earth magnet. My only concern is how much clear coat I would need to put over the mating parts to prevent paint/decals from wearing off.

Just glad I caught the upside-down thing in time. Looking at the original model, once the neck is cut away from the saucer the part should be able to be fitted to the neck (with a little filler) saving you the need to buy the Cobra neck at all and give a better detailed model. When my computers up and running I'll add a second to a sprue in my shop, or I might rip the more detailed neck section and give that the same treatment but want to see that the fit is ok first as I'm not sure how close the 3D model is to the actual one....hopefully very or insanely.

The original ship was made as 1/3125 gaming piece and engineered as a model that can split. I cut recesses to slot a 5x5x1mm and a 5x5x5mm magnet into the saucer and the same in the neck (seen in 3D rendition) which can then be filled over and give over 1kg of pull. The saucer was also hollowed in such a way to keep the model balanced by leaving the rear solid. No pretty pics I'm afraid.

Get cutting (carefully) Mophius

Cheers

I have a battlehead coming too so will see how they fit together before fitting them to the relative parts.
I used a mini cutter in a dremel to cut the parts away from the saucer but left the edge rough as did not want to cut too much away. I will have some time Monday to cut more accurately but fitting is going to have to wait a little bit as I need to smuggle it all home. lol

Having two of this part in a sprue as an option would be a boon to modelers. I have the solid resin battlehead as a gift from a friend. I lacks the details that this part has. With two of these pieces I have the option of sanding off the top of the cobrahead and adding this on top or just re-using the styrene parts, provided I do a decent job of hacking them off the saucer pieces
