I do really appreciate getting the clear pics mophius, it really does help me get my eye in as such with sizing details when the adjustments I make are in the 100 micron level.mophius wrote:Here is the top side with a coat of white primer.
The Cobra neck bridge section I'll add to a sprue to mate with this (as long as it all fits) is a lot more detailed than that. The shell of the model is 2mm thick so I might be able to add some supports/holding points to help fixing in place. It'll definitely work if you're displaying the parts separate, but I've got to play in 3D to see if I can make it work as a separable model. I also need to check the 3D view to make sure the dome doesn't hit the top of the inside of the saucer now I know it's 2mm thick. Fingers crossed for a slot in fit.

Nice! Many centuries ago, I built the old VA models cobra-head and just made the ship a Dominion War survivor.

Re: 2500 Ent-D
I suppose another use of your neck would be to correct the problems with the kit (shape of the impulse engine, location of the shuttlebays). So even if people had no interested in doing a saucer sep, the corrected neck would would make their build even "gooder"marcnoonan wrote:The Cobra neck bridge section I'll add to a sprue to mate with this (as long as it all fits) is a lot more detailed than that. Re: 2500 Ent-D
If you made a new neck, would you upgrade the details or leave it as is?
More details- like windows- would be cool, but it wouldn't match the rest of the kit.
While you're at it, you could make a cool inclined neck- making the Galaxy neck match the shape of the Refit....
It'd be a cool variant.
Maybe make nacelle struts that angle outward like the refit too...

You're correct that the difference in the detail levels is vastly different, it's even more detailed than the 12ft filming model. As there's also a GKer who has the Cobra neck available I don't want to replace their product so I will keep this purely as an additional part to the original kit to slot into the holes (hopefully) when the neck is cut away from the saucer. As many of you know I can make pretty much anything and so mophius's thread doesn't get swamped with part requests, I'll put up a thread in a few weeks for a WANT list and if a few of you definitely want parts, I'll do my best to make them available.

Re: 2500 Ent-D
I meant that a detailed part kinda looks odd on the nearly featureless styrene kit.
It's a great addition though- I wish I had it when I bought the other kit- though that kit looks great too- I just made a custom decal from a scan of the cobra-head as illustrated in the Trek Encyclopedia (it's a Sternbach I'll, IIRC).
