Re: Excelsior 1/1400

That is really incredible. Simply beautiful work. What did you use for your base coat? (I ask because my old one is Ducks Egg Blue, and my next one will be 50/50 DEB and flat white) Thanks for the kind words guys :) I belief I just used a plain white rattle can. I can’t remember the exact brand. It...

Thanks Prof. I’ve been working on deflector dish painting for a long time now! Many many trial and errors over the years :)

Re: What's on your 1/1400 bench (or on deck for the next)??

I really want to finish my Enterprise B. I’m just painting the details and it’ll be ready for decals. I also have an Akira in primer which I might finish this year. Other 1/1400 projects on the bench are 2 Oberth class ships, a Nebula style USS Melbourne (the one with the two extra smaller warp engi...

Re: Excelsior 1/1400

The Aztecs are home printed. Not my design though, I used the ones from SSM and resized them. None of the blue is decals though, all paint there.

Excelsior 1/1400

Trying to get all my pictures off photobucket.
The 1/1400 Starcrafts Excelsior I built a few years ago. This is all paint and home made decals. No wallpaper decals available back then :(

The instructions have you cut the secondary hull just aft of the "bulkhead". This worked great to get a consistant taper on the width, but the height was about 1mm short

That’s because it is like that on the studio model.

Re: 1/1400 AMT Enterprise-C (So it begins)

Fantastic work. How do you decide how many windows to drill out - just preference or are you matching the studio model? I bought one of these kits myself on eBay last week but was gutted to find it was missing part no. 16 - the secondary hull ventral phaser strip, so I doubt I'll be making it any t...

Re: 1/1400 AMT Enterprise-D Clear

Definitely white primer, then black, then a dark grey primer on the outside. It won’t be too thick, I’ve done it many times.

Use strips of masking tape to cover your windows. See how Don Matthys does it. He has many articles over at Culttvman’s site.

The 1/1000 scale one is available from “Ugh” models if you don’t mind that scale.

Re: Nova Hobby’s 1/1400 Daedalus.

Cool build! It feels good to just finish a kit, doesn't it? It sure does! I crashed my car about 8 months ago and had to do the repair work myself, so I’ve spent most of my free time rebuilding my 1:1 scale Cadillac. Funny thing is, I spray painted it using the same gun I use on my models (very tim...
