Special edition 1/537 ertl refit

Postby cannon fodder » Sun Sep 22, 2013 5:03 am

I finally got my ertl special edition 1/537 refit and started work on it last night. I at first was going to use filler to fill in all the annoying panel lines but decided after doing half the upper saucer to just sand them off. It's slow going but I think will be worth it in the end. I plan on using the filler on the secondary hull, nacelles and pylons/neck. It just seems that on those areas it will be easier to do. I will post some pics as soon as I have something worthy of putting up. I am considering using some of the aftermarket parts and am in search of a way to light the flashing strobes but as I have no experience wiring am unsure how to proceed.

It almost has all the lights. There are several quick flashing strobes, warning lights that are missing.

Here is an example of almost completely stock. You will see the slow flashing lights.

This is pretty close to how she should look and what I want to achieve for the most part.

just found this lol its for the 1/350 but should work in the smaller scales as well could even mount the board outside the kit in the base and just run the wires to the LED's if space is limited

they got kits for everything it seems lol

Thanks for the hyperlink, I'm checking them out for future kits...

In that second link, very nice job on the lights and the painting, but from what it looks like, those are some SERIOUSLY yellowed decals. Why the heck did he try to use the aged kit decals? That kit screams for aftermarket updated ones. All that work . . . :o

I thought the same thing. I plan on ordering aftermarket decals because I'm not building her as the 1701-A.

I am currently doing a non-lit 1:537 refit as an alternate universe ship. I am using JT Graphics awesome Constitution Refit supplemental decal sheets 1 & 2 for detailing. I also worked with JDecals to do my custom ship name. As long as you follow the directions, you won't go wrong with either decal-maker.
