1/537 Constellation class

Postby andyh » Sat Sep 17, 2016 10:06 am

For those of you with a long memory, Sci-Fi miniatures used to do a 1/537 vaccuform Constellation class (USS Stargazer). This build is HEAVILY modified.

I used a couple of 1/537 "smoothy" refit Enterprise saucer tops and the nacelle pylons (replacing the original vac area's which had the inaccurate hull pattern of the ST VI Enterprise kit).

Then I went to work scratch building all the details. The "Captains Yacht" (which I like to imagine it is), area at the back of the saucer was build using Gundam kit parts just like the original (and a bit of scratch building details). The rest of the mods are all strips and rods of styrene cut up really, really small. Also some ribbed styrene sheet thrown into the works.

The B/C deck and bridge is scratch built (once upon a time, Don sold them for me as DLM parts but I think they are out of production).

A long long way to go on this and it isn't nearly finished!

I had one of these kits loooong ago. Was way above my skill level. Not too sure what happened to it. :(

Thanks El Gato and Steve :)

Just did a little more work on the very back of the model here to try and get it looking a little closer to the Studio model. It's far from perfect, but is a reasonable representation of the details on this part of the studio model.

I still need to clean up some bits with a bit more putty :)

Did the kit already come with the Macross VF-1 torso piece or did you add it?

No, I built that detail myself using the Macross parts. It's not standard OOB VF-1 parts, I had to mod them quite a bit to get it looking like the one on the studio model.
