Andy, this looks fabulous! Loving the build so far!

Okay, newbie question here. Chalk? How are you using/applying it? Is it a drybrush technique where you grind the chalk into a powder, dip a dry brush into the powder and "paint" it on the model? How does it stay put?

If you wouldn't mind laying out the technique or provide a link to someone explaining the technique, I would greatly appreciate it! THX!

Keep going! Learning lots!

Exactly right Steve. They technique is just that. All I'd add, is that you have to mask the line you want done and most of the brushing on of chalk is actually done onto the masking tape at the very edge. Only a little goes on the model itself. Make sure to blow or lightly brush off the excess powder with a clean wide brush (in the direction that you wish it to fade).

They are an oil based chalk used by artists so the powder "stains" the paint.

A clear coat makes it permanent :)

Chalks can add a whole other layer of realism to a model. I used them extensively on my Klingon Bird-of-Prey model to add weathering and staining giving the model that "used and abused" look.

Thanks, Guys, for the low down on the Chalk/Dry brush technique as well as the examples!

I hadn't heard of the oil based chalk so that and the clear coat really cinches it up for me.

Apologies, Andy, for hijacking the thread.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled programming! :)

I really haven't got much further with the weathering as I get distracted too easily by other projects.

However I was fooling around tonight and was taking some pictures and noticed an interesting effect of the lighting in my room. The brighter light underneath shows the real color of the paint, however, it looks grey on top (like the original TOS color scheme), where the light globe above is not as strong. I painted this with the all one color grey/green like the Greg Jein "Trials and Tribbleations" version of the D7.

Anyway, thought I'd share :)

Also posted some pics with the lights on.
