Does AST have a rival?

Post by Xen » Sat Apr 02, 2016 2:06 am

All Scale Trek has enjoyed steady growth since we launched 3 years ago. We have had a few dips in ratings along the way, but nothing that had me concerned. Looking at March, again, it's not a major dip for this time of year, but it made me wonder if people are clicking off due to site browsing problems I'm not aware of, or if we have a new rival (i.e. another Trek-only modelling site).

Haven't seen any issues while coming to the forum. Spring break did happen in March, so maybe that had an impact.

Yes, Facebook groups.

This is one of the biggest.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/startrekmodels/

These are a pair one for 1/350th and one for smaller

The problem with all of the facebook groups is they are controlled by some big egos. They are quick to ban people they are quick to flex muscle. They hold contests and pick ships of the week, but they are very clickish. I don't like them. But the facebook groups are like candy, quick satisfaction and no substance. you don't have to wrry avbout hosting images, you just uplaod them, you get alot of satisfaction as people click the like button.

I have to admit to a slight infidelity- I did join another forum that was concerned with one gentleman who was doing a 1/350 enterprise D that he was giving serious thought to kitting....

Ah c'mon. It was a youthful indiscretion.

Look me in the eye and tell me you'd not be intrigued by the allure of a 6 foot Enterprise D, kit?

Oh goddess I feel so ashamed.

Thanks for the links Steam. I agree with you.

My lack of FB knowledge means I was unable to locate when they started. I'm trying to see if something popped up recently which would explain the slight dip here. If you're good at the old FB browsing then i would appreciate digging around and letting me know what you find out. :)

I honestly do not mind who joins what. I didn't create AST to start an "us vs them" site. I only want to narrow down possible explanations (e.g. new sites) that caused this. Links would be appreciated if said sites fit within that category. :)

Just being facetious.
