Going though the toys.

Post by Tesral » Wed Jun 05, 2019 2:20 am

I spent some time going though the various props I have. Most had the batteries removed. Good timing on the communicators as corrosion had started, but not far enough to damage.

Two surprises, one good one bad. The ST Enterprise Phase Pistol I thought was DOA worked when batteries were put in it. Bad, The science tricorder does not want to work. More fiddling required.

So all but one phaser II, one phaser IIb, the phase pistol, the Klingon blaster, and one communicator are now batteries out. No batteries cannot corrode.

Vinegar or lemon juice should clean the terminals, hopefully a capacitor isn't damaged or any main board corrosion/damages.

Best of luck getting it repaired.

Thanks for that timely tip. I've just been sorting through a lot of my old Trek toys, including various Playmates phasers, tricorders and ships and half of them had batteries still in. Thankfully only a couple had leaked and I couldn't find much sign of damage but the TNG Medical Tricorder is in a bad way (very crusty). I will see if this does the trick.

Tricorder heal thyself.

Good luck with it. The exposed metal parts are only the battery contacts. That is a good thing. No circuit board to ruin.
