Clear Resin Casting

Postby MEATLOAFr » Tue Mar 01, 2016 4:15 am

Just have a "simple question"

I have plans on doing the AGT Future Galaxy "Dreadnought" and I plan on lighting it. My plan is going "all out" already have the AMT/ERTL kit, and upgrade kits (forget whom it's by), DLM photo etch & tinted nacelle grill upgrades

My biggest problem is the 3rd pylon is solid (and not clear) - anyone know of a good clear resin to use, already have the mould casting supplies and plan on having a trench cast into the pylon, but i am unsure of what to use for a good clear cast for the windows on the pylon

Minor problem is there is not enough photo etch parts (phaser strips) for the "refit", but I was thinking of using some of the strips to cast the two "winglets" and nacelle caps with the photo etch patterns on them - I asked Don at DLM if he had any extra little phaser strips when I ordered the parts (almost 3 years ago now... god it makes me feel like I'm getting old) but it was a no go.

I know it's not as much fun as casting yourself but worth a look

when I made clear copies of kit parts for my Star trek models I used a product called
Ultra-Glo found at my local hardware store. (took 72 hours to cure :( )
the stuff from Smooth-On looks better and more clear.
(not sure how long the cure time is)

I've used a product that I found at Hobby Lobby a few years ago - but it hardened in the can before I ever had the chance to use it, don't even remember the name of it

needless to say - I'm looking for other options before I go and get something, thank you all for the help and ideas

There is the possibility of the product: Still Water.

no, wasn't that - was a 2 part 10:1 mixture where biggest part was in a metal container and other part was in a small bottle
