This will be our main contest. "Make It So" will most likely launch in June, with a 3 month build time, ending around September. Like last year, participants will be added to a special group that will allow them to create a WIP thread in the Entries section.
What I'd like to do is have two categories with a winner for each (instead of prizes for the top 3). The first category would be for normal "out of box" builds, using only minor modifications (such as specialist decals). The second category would focus on lighting, kitbashes and scratchbuilds. Folks building OOB will only "compete" with others in that category. The same for participants in category 2.
Please post which you prefer in the poll, in addition to stating your interest here. If we don't get enough interest to make both categories competitive, we'll lump everything into one.

Re: "Make It So" contest roll call
Even if I start out intending to build OOB, it won't end up that way. I'll end up scratchbuilding parts, and lighting it and designing my own electronics, and printing my own decals. With any luck, even finishing it.
Say, if someone enters the contest in the first category, and his model ends up in the second category, will he be able to switch?

But isn't it all Klingon opera?

what about making parts ahead of time for a build if ya plan on making them available later for conversions but want to include it in the kitbash part

Same here. I want to participate as a scratchbuild, but I had parts already made and I may get a couple of more.
But needless to say, I'm in. I have no chance against the likes of others posted in this thread, but why the $%^$%! not?

If an OOB build "transforms" into something else, then I would have to move it over to the other category. That would be the only fair thing to do. I'd hope that -if- we get enough for both categories, the OOB folks will stick to what they've planned on doing.

I was planning on doing a lit 1/350 NX-01 during the summer... Might as well be for this contest !

Re: "Make It So" contest roll call
I use the due date of the contest to actually get me to finish a build, so I want to push on and try some new technique. (Although it occurs to me I could use a push to finish an OOB build, too.)
Re: "Make It So" contest roll call
I considered allowing multiple entries for each participant, but we had too many fail to complete last years contest. I would say, take all the time you need, then add an extra month.
