You really don't need to do so many coats of Microsol. Sure it CAN help, but you run the risk of obliterating the decals like you found out. Glad you were able to fix it though!

Thanks for the feedback :)
Yeh I managed to replace the numbers, as seen on the last pic, so its all good.
In fairness it only had a couple coats and I wasn't really paying attention, applied the MicroSol and flipped the ship over and scraped it.

I must pay closer attention next time :D

Thanks also for the link Moongrim, I was able to use numbers that weren't being used on the decal sheet.

Good evening guys!!

Just thought I'd put up another couple images. I've given her a couple coats of clear matt. Just need to order the stand now to display her in all her glory!

Really really pleased with how it's all turned out, better than I expected if I'm honest, and it's giving me the confidence to restore the other models in my collection!

Thanks for looking guys :)

Damn that's looking fine!

My ONLY critique, is those raised lines should be sanded down. I was just watching some TNG and really appreciated the clean look and scale of that large film model. No giant raised panels or kelvin pods- opps- I mean escape pods.

Anyway, sorry---- yours does look very well done. Not trying to take anything away from that.

Heya,
Thanks for the feedback :)

I hear what you're saying, I've always liked that detail though. I know most people don't .

I personally liked the raised panels of the 4-foot model, the raised lines annoy me, and the smooth version just doesn't look right to me

Hi all,
Uploading some final shots of my restore. I'm really pleased with the overall result too, considering she's been at the bottom of a box for at least the last 10 years :(

I've learnt quite a lot, I've made some mistakes and there are a few things I would have done differently plus there's a bit of silvering around some of the decals but hey ho! As I've said, she's not perfect, but she's mine :)

The only thing left to do now is buy the stand and show her off :)

Thanks for all your help, support and encouragement guys, its really appreciated.
