Bragging Rights Contest 2015- Moongrim's Entry- Done

Postby Moongrim » Wed Mar 18, 2015 6:13 pm

Upon due consideration of my 'abilities' such as they are.

And the chosen topic: Auxiliary and Support Class.

I hereby designate what mine entry will be:

The Derf Class.

Ooh, nice! It's like a modified Larson. I've had a soft spot for the Larson since it was the first design I had seen outside of the Connies

I like it. What scale will it be in?

El Gato's commentary will give you a hint.

I've a spare Larson in 1/1000.

This will be the DERF class.

Not to be confused with the Pakled Derp Class starships.

But so far I've been mostly working on getting the Ventral (spine?/Sternum?) installed. If you'll look underneath the primary hull there is what appears to be an extended version of the Ventral dome extending aft to the rear of the ship. You can see it in side profile but not from head on. I'm trying to grind down part of a section of plumbing tube and fill it with Apoxie sculpt.

After that, it'll be drilling for the engine pylons.

Progress

The Ventral Spine work- early stage, it's now two layers of the plastic piping.
Image

Dorsal section pylon grooves cut. Ventral spine at roughage stage.
Image

Pylons curing after CYA.
Image

Currently- grooves puttied and awaiting more rounds of sanding. Household chores getting in the way (She Who Must Be Obeyed).

Next.
Warp engines ready for mounting. Heat gun to pylons for straightening out.
Drill mounting hole after finding center of gravity- epoxy it in.
Primer coat, final detail sanding, Standard Federation Grey coat. Detail painting. Clear gloss coat, decals, clear gloss coat, clear dull coat, and then mounting on stand.
