Re: WIP: Saladin class Successor
Thank you. I think I can do a little better than this, though. I added the detail after putting the walls together, but if I added most of the detail before putting the walls together... well, we'll see how it turns out.

Re: WIP: Saladin class Successor
I was in a local two dollar shop this morning, looking for pot pourri. I didn't find the sweet smelling wood shavings and dried flowers I wanted, but I did find this:
I'm cheap when it comes to spending money on tools. So cheap, in fact, that I almost walked away from this six dollar generic knife set. But I figured what the hell. I have been using my knife and its general-purpose blade very inappropriately for way too long, and I have found it hard to sculpt and carve things. Strangely enough, the small blades fit the knife handle I already had perfectly. Which is good, because while the blades are... acceptable, the handles they come with are rubbish.
I just had to try them out as soon as I got home - You know how it is. - so I decided to have a second go at recessing the torpedo launchers. The problem I had yesterday was taking enough material off the launchers and the saucer to make them fit. The only way I could have done it would have been to make a larger hole. I used the small and large... er, un-angled chisels? The ones I have out in the photo above.
First thing I did was trim away most of the fat from one side of the torpedo launchers.
Then I peeled away a good part of the plastic on the top and bottom side of the hole to thin them. The Enterprise-B kit has good, thick plastic that'd probably stop a 40 mm shell.
And in went the torpedo launchers. Success! Now that I have chisels and more knife blades, I feel there is so much more I can do. I'M UNSTOPPABLE! Haha!

Having the right tools for the job definitely can make a huge difference. Love the look of your torpedo launcher. Very cool!

Nice work so far. Cool to see a ship design from this era. Love how the shuttlebay is going. Definitely need to light it.

I have the idea I can cannibalise a prewired LED and battery box from a toy or novelty item. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Gear_ ... it_be?,How hard can it be?trekriffic wrote:Nice work so far. Depening on what I'm feeling up to it could be the first thing on the agenda. Thanks for the suggestions for how-tos, but I am not a wiring kind of guy. I'm electrically derelict, to quote Richard from Keeping Up Appearances.kobayashimaru wrote:neat!
you're returning to this awesome project.
