USS Raan, NCC-2519 - Belknap-class

Postby Griffworks » Mon Mar 27, 2017 5:15 pm

This 1/1000 scale model conversion kit that is based off the Belknap-class ship see in the fan-made Ships of the StarFleet, Volume One, Revised. The conversion kit uses the Round 2 Refit Enterprise kit, plus the resin parts from Federation Models.

Construction, base coat, and detail painting is complete. The parts required very little cleanup and the fit was extremely nice, with only part that didn't quite fit perfectly - the hangar bay roof. It was just ever-so-slightly too tall. A little putty and sanding, tho, fixed that.

I added the Ascension Nacelles from Federation Models, /: I wanted a stand out ship. I originally started a build in 1/537 scale using the larger FedMods conversion almost 10 years ago.

Pieces, parts!

Overall, this build will require me to have custom decals made, so she'll likely not be 100% finished for quite some time.

The Belknap is one of my fav fan designs. This is definitely on my list for future builds.

Cool, this is good design! I don't think I've ever seen a model of it.

I'm liking what I see- nice addition with the Ascension engines.

I have this same arrangement in my build queue too so I'll be very interested to see how this comes out. I've been considering adding the center third Ascension style nacelle FedMod also offers.

So, going back thru my various threads to make sure I had everything up-to-date. And I didn’t... ssoooo....

Teeny, tiny new-Type Shuttle that comes with the kit.

The resin B/C deck from the conversion kit looks TONS better than the section on the kit.

This is the large shuttoecraft that sits atop the Vulcan shuttle seen in ST:TMP. I added it here to show just how big it really is.

Next we have a ST:V Shuttle craft next to a TOS shuttlecraft.

And now with an Archer-class scout to better give an idea of its size. This particular Archer is from Shapeways.

More to come.

I need to do some touch up paint in several spots, then get some custom decals made. I’m hoping to have this one completed by the end of Spring/early Summer.
