Romulan Capsize Cruiser

Post by Griffworks » Mon Oct 02, 2017 3:33 pm

This is the 1/1000 scale resin Romulan Capsize from UGH! Models. The model is roughly " / cm long, by " / cm wide, and includes a stylized Bird-of-Prey emblem for the ventral hull. I intend to give her a base coat of Tamiya rattlecan AS-5 Light Blue (Luftwaffe), same as on the V-11 Stormbird.

The design comes to us from the mind of Masao Okazaki, of The Starfleet Museum fame. It's meant to be the predecessor of the Romulan Bird-of-Prey, first seen in the TOS Episode "Balance of Terror".

The kit can be found here:

I like how these impulse engines are situated, as well as detailed.

The two outboard tubes are heavy disruptors. The center tube is the plasma weapon, with the tubes to either side being missile tubes.

Panel lines are very crisp.

Obviously, still lots to do at this point.

This ship is growing on me. Supposedly it's going to come out in 2500 soon (along with other 2500 resin-y goodness). I may get it. At the very least, I'm going to see if Ugh is willing to sell me a couple of those pylons - maybe miscast ones that are OK but not good enough to sell as part of a kit

1/2500 Ivarix molds are almost done. I start pouring them next week. 1/2500 nacelle set is ready to pour, too. So many masters, so little time in each day....

Updated pics. I forget the base coat color, tho think it is Tamiya rattlecan AS-20 Insignia White (US Navy).

More to come once I get back to painting the non-Fed ships.
