Production series Enterprise NCC-1701

Post by trekriffic » Mon Oct 01, 2012 6:55 pm

This is my Polar Lights 1/1000 Enterprise built as the production version.
Modifications to the kit included installing an onboard battery powered LED lighting system for the bussard and saucer domes. The base is from The Model Base Guy:

That is a fun little kit, looks nice OOB but can be taken to an extreme level like you've done. That is just plain impressive.

Agreed.

That last image in particular could have been pulled directly from a remastered TOS episode.

Nice work.

Thanks guys! It was a fun build that's for sure and only took me a few months to complete which is quick for me.

Pretty sure I've seen this one on some of the other boards and I must say, it's one of the best builds of the subject in this scale. What base color did you use for the hull?

I agree with the other posts. Your finish looks perfect and the lighting just right. Many, way too many lighted ships seem to be overdone and far too bright with lighting. Yours seems to be right on and not too overpowering.

Thanks Shark.

The hull color is based on Paul Newitt's article about the original Enterprise color and is the closest I could get to "concrete". It's an ACE Hardware enamel paint called "Shady Cove". I bought a quart of it for 10 bucks.
You need to thin it down about 60/40 thinner to paint and it only comes in gloss so takes 3-4 days to dry:

These pics taken outside on a cloudy day may give you a better idea of the true color:

Can't believe that's 1/1000 scale. Just amazing.
