Mario's Nemesis completed!

Post by Steam235 » Thu Apr 10, 2014 4:24 am

With the most recent release of the 1701E I found my self able to build it again and do it better than before. Now that I have an airbrush I can mix colors to get greys that fit the ship alot better. I feel my lighting last time was where I wanted it to be, so this time I'll be doing the same LED strip lighting. The differences will be in the paint job.

I may even just use acreation aztec decals. I'm on the fence, my last build...

May not have had the right colors but it was all mine. With the Decals it should look spot on, but I feel I wouldn't be as involved using them. This is not any critique on using aztec decals, certainly the builds I've seen with the decals look better than my last sovereign.

If Orbital Drydock releases an aztec mask system for this ship then I'll jump on that, barring that right now I'm leaning toward the decals.

In addition to that, I'll be using the Nemesis conversion kit.

Here's the start of the ship.

The Nemesis kit has pylons cut in two pieces to facilitate lighting.

You still have to make some room for the wires.

And cut some holes for them

I'll be using 30 gauge wrapping wire.

Next it will be just superglue the parts together, and putty the seam.

More to come...

I'd love to hear any thoughts or critiques on my old build that I can improve on.

I'd also love to hear if any one has used these pylons, I've heard they may droop...

It's a good start! I'm not sure how you improve the build; youve already outlined that you want more movie accurate colours and that you feel more confident in your abilities and equipment. So it sounds like you're on the way.

Only criticism of the above is the nacelle leds. A little diffusion of some kind would break up the 'line of bulbs' effect.

I'd also suggest you add a little brass rod in to those pylons since they're divided anyhow. I'd hate to see them droop after a couple years. :(

Agreed.

Mario,
i believe thats what they were getting at. If it were me I would lenghtin the brass rod so it would go into the secondary hull. Then if possiable try to conect the two rod ends to form a shallow type v. Its kind of hard to eplaine but I hope you understand what I am getting at. I unfortunitly cant do any vissuals at the moment.

I've been cutting parts of the ship to allow for lighting.

And I've been drilling lots of windows.

I had to cut the curved inside brace to fit the conversion deflector trench

I opened this kit over three months ago and I've yet to lay a drop of glue or paint. Once all of this cutting is finished it should start going alot faster.

You make this stuff look easy. Keep the pics coming!

Fantastic work so far. You have much more patience than I, to drill all those windows!! You're using a lot of the aftermarket parts that I plan on using, so I'm really looking forward to seeing how your build comes out. Are you also getting the photoetch for this ship?
