Long time - no post everyone!
Didnt I say this stuff takes me forever?
Progress is slow, but it is happening. On my last big push on this build I was trying to figure out the light plan. Some times I dont know what my past self was thinking! The nav/Anti-Colision lights were origanally going to be 1.8mm butterfly style leds. These would have worked great, buuuutttt... scaled out thats a 2.5m light. Rather large. In my haste I drilled all the holes for them too...

Pretty big hole. I have instead decided to fill the oversized holes and go with .5mm fiberoptic strands with a slight lens melted to the end. Ill snap some pics tonight.
Anyone have any tips on blooming the ends of fibers to get a good consistant domed lens? Bic lighter?

While I can't speak for others, I am of the instant-gratification-for-eye-candy, so here:

I've heard heat is the quickest way to get the FO ends to "dome"

I too feel the tingle in the neither regions for those perfect drilled windows

and agree on the heat the tips of fiber to dome them, practice on some scrap of what you are going to use - some types react differently or disintegrate/combust

I am enjoying the build. I have to do a double take every time I see the header. Sorry Dingbat.

Thanks for the kind words guys!
Unfortunately, like all things that make our nether regions tingle, you shouldnt zoom in toooo close. Many of the windows still need some help.

You know you've messed up when you need to break out the kneadatite epoxy:

And a bloomed end fiber fit into a tiny little hole...

Still trying to get a nice domed shape - this one turned into more of a ball and doesnt light as evenly in person as it does in the photo.
