Da burd is in the house. Now it needs a quick bath.

Maybe, ....maybe not. I put the disclaimer on the instructions just to be safe, but the only mold release I use is talcum powder from Johnson & Johnson. Still could be some sort of resin related residue, but I never wash my parts before I build. However, I did have a problem with one build a couple of years ago where the paint started to lift off with the masking, but nothing since. It was minor, and I was able to fix it, but still a pain.

On second thought, yeah, go ahead and dunk it in Dawn dishwater for awhile.

So you recommend soaking resin kits overnight? Is that standard for mold release removal? In the past I've just soaked them for about 10 minutes or so in hot warm water and dishwashing liquid before scrubbing with a bristle brush and rinsing. Maybe I've been doing it wrong.

No, he posted fairly late in the evening, so I thought he was soaking it overnight, which isn't a bad thing. I just edited my post to reflect the change.

Not necessarily kits I make, but for resin kits in general, 10-20 minutes should be good enough to break down any oily residue. If you're concerned about the "feel" of the resin before washing - or maybe your hands were a bit oily from being sweaty, cooking with vegetable oil, working on the car or whatever, then you might want to use a more hands-on approach and use an old toothbrush to get into the crevasses. I only mention the hands part, because I'm guilty of fondling kits when they first arrive without thinking about washing my hands first. The excitement of a new kit takes the place of reason and common sense sometimes.

I make a habit of washing everything, even styrene. A light washing hurts nothing.

The only issue I ever had were with Ravenstar kits, not sure what was on them, but when spray or either brush without a soapy dip in cool water, it'd look like ink had been splashed onto it and went all blotchy. Very strange, but after a rinse it was fine. Fairy Liquid plus some room temperature water later and paint stuck to the valdore like .... well it involves a shovel and a number 2 :P
