Federation Standard Containers

Postby Tesral » Tue Jan 02, 2018 5:35 am

Federation Standard Containers are usually represented in 1/2500 as 1/2". That would be wrong. The FJ manual said they are 40 meter across, that scales to 0.629". Or 5/8"

Aluminum tubing is available in that size. This must be explored.

Wooden dowels, too. Easier to work with, although I've never been able to sand the ends into the proper shape. They take a lot of primer or paint to cover the grain, and they show up any dings they get.

I like the wooden dowel idea although PVC pipe sounds good too. For the ends you maybe could bond a pair of these 1/2" diameter acrylic half spheres:

Dings in wood are easy to fix with a little water and some sanding

For TMP era containers, I've used Super Glue tubes.

The Half spheres would be TOO round for end caps of the containers.

I have a file on just about every single drawing of ST TOS (and TMP, I think) containers made.
Lots of container and decal ideas for containers.

5/8" ? That's 16 millimetre in real money isn't it .

Try searching for 16mm plastic (polystyrene) test tubes . 8-)
