Ideas & Projects for Federation Ships

Post by dJiPi »

Hello everybody,
I have been told to share my ideas so let´s go :
The Odyssey from Hidden Frontier web serie:
-saucer: I will use an Ambassador class saucer
-bridge: sovereign class bridge/conning with the impulse engines
-secondary hull: galaxy class, I will reduce the height of the neck and extend it forward a little bit.
-warp nacelles : got to find some weapon/fuel tanks from airplanes kits
Bradbury Class:
-saucer: sovereign saucer minus bridge (of course, see above  )
-bridge: excelsior/Enterprise B
-secondary hulls: two from excelsior/Enterprise B
-warp nacelles: halves of stabilo boss pens (the ones used in the studio kitbashes)
A design I have seen somewhere on the web, but it has been re-worked since and looks differently now Dawnstar Class Explorer:
-saucer: galaxy
-Hull: ambassador
-warp: If I can get the Cheyenne's ones or, again the stabilo boss pens (bigger but may look better on an ambassador hull)
Border cruiser USS Frontier
-saucer: galaxy but turn by 90°, needs 2 saucers to cut/displace the connecting neck
-warp pylons: need to change fwd to aft (swept the other way)
-warp nacelles: long ones from MMI
All these models will not be accurate reproductions but that's good enough for me ;)
Btw, If some garage makers want to do them in resin .... I will save a lot of time and probably stay sane

Neat! Hope to see some of these kitbashes soon. I think a lot of the GKers are busy with other in-demand projects, but if you bash something up maybe you'll inspire them. :D

Thanks,
Will probably start after my next contract at sea, during summer time, I still need to buy/find some bits.
When started I will post some pics.

I forgot: I have an Eaglemoss Dauntless on his way to my mail'box for an Attack Cruiser:
-saucer: the Dauntless's one
-secondary hull: sovereign
-warp: galaxy but rotated by 90°, warp pylons should be horizontal.
I don't know yet if I can sandwich the secondary hull of the Dauntless between the 2 halves of the sovereign's or If I must cut/saw it off.

Warp nacelles of the Dauntless will be very useful for an upgrade/refit of one of the many TOS/TMP kits I have (Phobos, Arethusa or Bonaventure).
Persevere tender refit: MVM nacelles 504
Bonaventure refit: MVM nacelles 503 with horizontal pylons to keep a low profile for a pathfinder vessel.

With 3 MVM nacelles of the MVM Cyclone and Enterprise V-shaped pylons you can make a nice frigate close to the kitbash from DS9 built from Excelsior/Ent B saucers. Imho these shorter nacelles will look better than long ones for a ship without secondary hull.

Now If you are looking for a nice secondary hull : a Falcon F-16 fuselage. The air intake is perfect for a deflector array housing.

Want to build a twin booms ship like the Akira class or the NX : use the two halves of a Me 262

Here is how I used a 1/350 F-14 in a build:

and the 1/2500 end result:

Very nice, looks like a fast ship. The "winglets" (triangle shapes) are similar to the modern extensions of the "actual" ships such as the sovereign class. A good refit for a old round saucer ship, I like it.
Maybe I should use this (or a similar airframe such as F-15, F-18, Mig-29, Su-27) for the Bradbury class to have parallel warp nacelles, just have to find the closest shape and .... scale ! My plastic kits dealer will go mad when I'll bring the sovereign saucer

Well this line of thought and concept looks promising...
There are Times, Sir, when men of good Conscience cannot blindly follow orders. You acknowledge their sentience, but ignore their personal liberties and freedoms. Order a man to hand over his child to the state? Not while I"m captain.

Say! Those are some cool kitbash ideas, dJiPi. I am a massive fan of the Allegiance class (Odyssey is one of these); it's about time someone made a physical model!

I've always wanted to try an F-16 with the single air intake. I think it might work ok for a deflector dish housing.
